Today, Hesston products continue to lead the way in advanced hay and forage technology. We are proud to offer a full line of hay and forage equipment including windrowers and heads, baling systems, mowing systems, rakes and tedders and forage equipment. Never owned a sickle pull type machine. Had a 1350 Case rotory pull type and it was different than the hesstons, it was a '10 model. I think the 8830 self propeled is the same as an 8300 heston and they are good swathers, I had an 8400, 8500 rotory, 8250S, Dad's current 8550S rotory, and my current 9635 rotory. We used to run one sickle type and one rotory for grass. Then we decided the new rotory's are good enough to not destroy alfalfa. The 8300/8830 is a good swather for alfalfa, alot of crimper adjustment and can get pretty tight to do sorguhm and bust their stalks, you just have to go slower than my 9635 at 10-12mph. The 8830 has a 4cly Cummins too, very fuel efficient.
8330 Yup, that would make a difference. Never met a NH, JD, or Mac Don that could keep up with my same vintage swather.
Like I said, my family got rid of the pull type sickle mowers before I was running them but there are 100's still going in this area today. That was one thing about the 1090 and 1091,they would dang near hang with a discbine. And walk away from a NH or JD.' Till they broke and they broke big.Didn't knock 3/4 of the leaves off either and would dry down 2 hours earlier. If they didn't break. As much use as mine had, I couldn't even point toward any one thing to look at for wear, other than the sprockets, mine were getting pretty pointed.
Some of the tin was starting to crack on the side shields. I actually found a late model that had a hydraulic tounge, but the price was to close to that of the 8309 discbine that I updated to, otherwise I might still be using an 8330. They will cut about anything, in fact I cut a deer antler in half with it and never even broke a knife, the antler looked like it had been cut with power saw. I sold it to a neighbor who replaced a NH 479 with it, he later told me that it took him one hour less time to cut his hay, he said that he actually enjoys cutting hay now! As far as rigs being whipped, yes some are. My 9635 was my uncles, its a 09 model and has only 650hr on it.

He bought it just before going out of the hay buisiness and we demo'd 3 swathers/summer so it got used as back up for the demo's. When we got it the salesman at the Hesston dealer said 'you wont like the 9635 seats as much as the 8550S seat.

We were trading the 8550S in because the seat was crap and it had 1500 hrs in 3yrs. The dealer pulled a fast one and took our seats and swapped them, we got the old 'reconditioned' seat and our old rig got the new seat. The recon seat was broken again in 100hrs and the old swather sold in under a week.

I just got a used seat (free) out of a 89x0 tractor, has worn upolstry but I originally got for the arm rests. My 8920 armrests are pretty bad, but after some looking the seat will fit perfectly in my swather, soon I will be riding in CIH comfort in my swather.
